INTRODUCTION

Democracies (including ours) are fragmenting into warring mobs. Is it because we humans are evil at core….or because we are stupid when it comes to living together in large numbers ….or because we are so self-preoccupied with the matters of daily life that we pay little attention to the vaudevillian antics of our politicians? They’re questions for you to answer.
One thing, however, is for sure. If we become, or remain, disinterested in matters political (except around election time ) the less we’ll know about the realities, the forces, shaping our future.
Where ignorance and laziness prevail gullible voters are too easily swayed and manipulated by political rhetoric, empty party promises, little cash handouts, news snippets and media sensationalism.
In tough times everyone blames everyone else for what’s going wrong. We separate into groups that don’t listen to each other. Angry populism is the result. The ties that binds us together start to dissolve.
Who can stop this slide into chaos?
The following essay argues that it won’t be our political class that leads the way. They’re too frightened to take bold steps for fear of losing votes. In the final analysis it’s we citizens who must take the initiative. The essay shows how.
